304 vs 316 Stainless Steel
304 and 316 are two of the most common grades of stainless steel used in construction. While both possess excellent corrosion resistance, they have some key differences that need to be taken into consideration when deciding which one is best suited to your application:
304 Stainless Steel
This is the most widely used grade of stainless steel and is classified as 'Austenitic'. This type of steel has a higher corrosion resistance than many other grades, making it perfect for indoor applications in non-aggressive environments.
316 Stainless Steel
This is also known as 'Marine Grade', and is an Austenitic alloy with higher levels of molybdenum, chromium and nickel. This makes it more resistant to corrosion and oxidation than other grade types and is ideal for outdoor or marine applications. However this also makes it more expensive than other grades such as 304.
